As Michael Ballack is still recovering from a hamstring injury, Ali Karimi filled in that central midfield position yet again following his Champions League perfomance against Rapid Vienna.  This time, the oponents were FSV Mainz visiting the Allianz Arena at full capacity.

Claudio Pizarro was the savior for Bayern as he netted two goals to give Bayern a 2 - 1 victory over a very determine Mainz side.  Pizarro's scored his first in the 28th minute but the score was soon leveled by the visitors on the 34th minute.  Pizarro then scored the game winner 9 minutes into the second half.  Karimi was on the pitch for 78 minutes and was not at his best.  Credit to Mainz, they pressed forward and made Bayern's seventh consecutive home victory a hard-fought one.
